Feeling jealous now and then is human. What matters is what you do with it. Handled well, it can point to a need worth talking about. Left unchecked, it can wear down trust.
Understanding the feeling
- Ask yourself what's underneath it. Is it insecurity, a past hurt, or something specific that happened?
- Separate feelings from facts before you react.
Talking about it
- Bring it up calmly and early: "I noticed I felt uneasy when… can we talk about it?"
- Agree on boundaries together, rather than setting rules for the other person.
When it goes too far
- Checking someone's phone, controlling who they see or constant accusations are not okay, whoever is doing it.
- If jealousy is affecting your wellbeing, talking to a counsellor can really help.
